Comparative studies of reverse osmosis membranes for wastewater reclamation [An article from: Desalination]
Comparative studies of reverse osmosis membranes for wastewater reclamation [An article from: Desalination] This digital document is a journal article from Desalination, published by Elsevier in 2006. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
Interest in wastewater reclamation and reuse has increased considerably over the past several years in Spain. However, the implementation of involving membrane-based advanced treatment and groundwater recharge schemes is still limited. The goal of this paper is to show part of the studies conducted using an experimental pilot plant (output: 100 m^3/d) in Chiclana de la Frontera, Province of Cadiz, southern Spain. The purpose pilot-plant study was to define the optimum conditions for physicochemical pretreatment of secondary effluents for successful reverse osmosis operation for groundwater recharge. The performance of cellulose acetate and two thin-film composite membranes was studied. Several pretreatment levels were used in order to optimise economic issues. Comparative analyses of the secondary effluent and the reclaimed wastewater for groundwater recharge were made in order to study the efficiency of the treatment sequence used and the feasibility of the processes studied. Membrane rejection characteristics are showed to be an important barrier to the presence of pollutants and micro-pollutants in reclaimed wastewater. Finally, the high quality of reclaimed wastewater allows it to be used with safety in groundwater recharge and other reuse applications without restrictions.

Sea water desalination by reverse osmosis: the true needs for energy [An article from: Desalination]
Sea water desalination by reverse osmosis: the true needs for energy [An article from: Desalination] This digital document is a journal article from Desalination, published by Elsevier in 2007. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
Almost half the exploitation costs of sea water reverse osmosis plant is affected to the electricity costs. Therefore, it's crucial to control those, and firstly to evaluate it. Each case should be treated independently, since the need in electricity depends on different factors: sea water characteristics, values taken for RO sizing parameters, electromechanical components efficiency . . . and, last but not least, choice of the system for hydraulic energy recovery of the concentrate. Energy recovery devices are an important part of any sea water reverse osmosis system, and any future decrease in specific energy consumption is dependent upon the further development and improvement in the performance of such devices. Recent technological innovations, such as energy recovery turbine, are required to reduce and improve the energy consumption. One of the simplest methods to operate a sea water RO unit is to run the pump at constant speed, to obtain the required membrane feed pressure through a feed throttle valve, and to recover the remaining brine energy via a Pelton turbine. Increasing hydraulic performances of Pelton turbines requires the optimisation of all components, taking into account their coupling. Until now the development of Pelton turbines has relied almost entirely on experimental and empirical knowledge and has not benefited from numerical flow simulation. This is mainly due to the fact that until now CFD simulations of free surface flows have not been fully validated and were impractical in an industrial environment, mainly due to the large computing time and resources that are needed. The numerical codes are still under development and, as with all CFD methods, have to be evaluated and validated before they can be used as standard tools in design. The highly successful use of CFD in Francis and Kaplan turbines has brought benefits of improved performance, more rapid and less risky design processes, large reduction in the need for empirical methods and reduced need for model and prototype tests. It is natural that these modern sophisticated design tools should now be adapted for use in Pelton turbines.

Energy management and DSM techniques for a PV-diesel powered sea water reverse osmosis desalination plant in Ginostra, Sicily [An article from: Desalination]
Energy management and DSM techniques for a PV-diesel powered sea water reverse osmosis desalination plant in Ginostra, Sicily [An article from: Desalination] This digital document is a journal article from Desalination, published by Elsevier in . The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
The aim of this project is the development of an energy management technique for a Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant in the small village of Ginostra in Sicily. The desalination plant has not been realised yet and only a preliminary project is available from ENEA, the Italian Agency for Energy, Environment and New Technologies [ENEA (Italian Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Environment), Impianto di Dissalazione a Ginostra, Isola di Stromboli - Progetto preliminare. Internal Project Documentation]. The energy needed to perform the desalination process will come from the 100 kWp PV-Diesel hybrid system that supplies the islanders whose installed power will be expanded to 125 kWp. This system has been sized for the energy demand of the summer months when the population is much higher. This results in the production of a large amount of excess PV energy that remains unused from October to May. The desalination system has to provide a local source of fresh water (at the moment water is periodically supplied by a tank ship) through the use of as much excess PV energy as possible. Thus, the aim of the energy management system is to run the desalinator with the smallest possible amount of diesel produced energy, and with the largest possible amount of PV excess energy. An energy management technique is here proposed and an hourly simulation of the combination of the hybrid system with the desalination plant is performed. Results for energy consumption with and without the proposed energy management technique are presented and the number of diesel operational hours has been taken as the discriminating parameter.

To avoid the possibility of cannibalism - they eat anything - tads are reared in separate containers. I use reverse osmosis water with "RO Right" added to boost the dissolved solids. Some people claim to use pure reverse osmosis water, but I lost tads in it - the salts are sucked out in extremely low PPM water. I boost the dissolved salts to 200-400 PPM. Maybe my reverse osmosis machine gets more of the salts out than units others use,

water purity fish tanks Q & A

Resolved Question: Changing the PH of Reverse Osmosis Water?
I have a reverse osmosis water filtration system in my sink to purify my water. I like the idea of drinking purified water, but I do not like the idea of my water being slightly acidic. What are some cheap ways that I can convert my purified water into a more alkaline solution? (Keeping in mind that this is for drinking...)

Resolved Question: What removes fluoride? ion exchange unit or reverse osmosis?
I'm wondering which one removes fluoride from water and which one doesn't, thanks.

Resolved Question: What is the meaning of Osmosis ?
Today packed water is available in reverse osmosis. But first what is osmosis and then how does reverse osmosis works?

Resolved Question: what is reverse osmosis? mention its application in daily life.?

Voting Question: Theres no water coming from my reverse osmosis water system?
there is no water coming from my system. It is a whirlpool wher12 system with a pressure tank. The water got slower and slower and now it is not running at all. The air tank didn't have any presure in it so I filled it back to 80 psi and water came out for about 5-10 sec and still nothing. What can I do?

Resolved Question: New aquarium set up last month; 4 fish dead and 2 have white stuff growing on them. How to start over?
I had an aquarium set up last month. The guy had it in his garage and hadn't used it for about a month. He set it up using reverse osmosis drinking water and the next day came back and put the fish in it. 2 weeks ago the first fish died and 3 others died in the last week or so. The 2 remaining fish are covered in what looks like white fur or fungus or something. I'm going to get rid of those fish and clean out the tank. How to I properly start over so that this doesnt happen again? It's a 55 gallon aquarium and all of the fish were compatible. I changed out 5-10 gallons of h2o a week every week. All of the fish were around 4" when added. I'm not the one who put them in there but I know he left the bag in the water and then added some stress reduction chemical to the bag before he finally let them into the actual aquarium.

Voting Question: What is reverse osmosis water?
I always see "reverse osmosis" on a lot of bottled waters. What is that? Thank you. Delicious!

Voting Question: Should I use soft water or city water to purify via reverse osmosis?
Someone told me soft water will make my filters (I have 4) http://www.waterafilters.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=6_14_19 last much longer. Is this true? Can someone please find me a source? Thank you Answer gets 10 points

Resolved Question: What is the best treatment for a male betta with ick?
I'm noticing my male betta has little white cottony looking splotches and is lethargic. Either staying at the bottom of the tank or at the top but not swimming around. He is in a 1 gallon aquarium with filter and air pump. I use bottled reverse osmosis filtered water and Aquasafe but I think he's likely to be dead by morning. I could be wrong on the diagnosis too. Please help! Thank you. It was Ick and he died :(

Resolved Question: Does anyone how to fix a leaky Culligan reverse osmosis tap?
We had them come and repressurize the tank (with our own pump btw) and change the filters. Since then we got a bill for over $200. I am postponing paying it because I lost my job. Now the darn thing is leaking every time we turn it on. Its at the base by the slide switch. We can't call them to fix it because of the outstanding bill. What can we do? Any fix-it-yourself websites out there anyone can recommend? I will post a picture. Image and video hosting by TinyPic Sorry the link didn't post like I wanted. Its a side sliding one. Feel free to email me. Yahoo isn't letting me post the correct link.
