Resolved Question: Angelfish difficulties? very simple questions!?
I have a 12g freshwater tropical aquarium, here are the stats: pH: 7.5 Temperature: 81F Water changes: every week, on tuesday, 25% ammonia:0.0ppm nitrite:0.0ppm nitrate:0.0ppm ( it is, i tried several test tubes and it's 0.0ppm for sure ) tank size:12 gallons filter: 110-120GPH plants: anacharis and anbubias inhabitants: 5 Rummy nosed Tetras, 1 small 2" angelfish, 1 male molly and 4 guppy fry ( in breeder net within the aquarium ) I had 2 angelfish and no other fish except 3 guppies, the angelfish killed 2 guppies and i returned the big angelfish and added a molly and 5 rummy nose tetras, ever since the big angelfish has left, his top fin ( dorsal, i think ) has been down, it rises up when he gets angry at other fish or when he eats. He spends the majority of his time in the plants or staring at the corner of the aquarium, gills moving, eyes moving everything normal except for that fin. He is very short tempered with all of the fish, i fed him a baby guppy ( healthy ) Should i do an early water change? ( everything is perfect ) he has been in the tank for aobut 2 weeks now and has never been this lethargic, he moves but doesn't really swim around, only once in a while, he does not like the molly and warns the tetras to basically f*ck off. Everything is great, the tank is cycled and everything BTW, the tetras and molly were added about 2 days ago, they are healthy and schooling actively. What should i do for the angelfish or is this a stage? And a question for the tetras? once in a while, one of them leaves the school and swims really fast like a maniac, just darting everywhere, than he sees his school and returns, and everything carries on, is this normal or should i worry? I checked several times for ich, dropsy, fin rot and so on but nothing, they are all as healthy as can be. FYI: i had 7 baby guppies, two got very white and died ( they were eating and everything but they died ) and 1 i fed to the angelfish, would this be a problem? Thanks a lot! This 12g tank is only a 2 month commitment for the fish, they will be re-located as I am moving countries, YAY!
Resolved Question: Please i need some help with this?
I have hermit crabs and my glass tank is fogging up so much that i can not see in. I Have a large salt water dish with a bubbler (although i've turned this off to avoid further moisture) and I have a small freshwater dish. I have a large heatpad under half of the aquarium and a small one on the backside. This keeps it quite a good temperature day and night. The humidity is quite good also but it's getting pretty wet in there at the moment. Any good tips on how to avoid this at the moment would be appreciate, Thanks =)
Resolved Question: Wanting to keep a shrimp only aquarium...advice please!!!?
I want to keep a freshwater shrimp only aquarium with live plants. I want to keep either red cherry shrimp or ghost shrimp...or both possibly. How many shrimp would you suggest to keep (It's a 10 tank)? Does the same rule for fish apply here (1 inch per gallon)? What temperature should I keep the tank at (in ferinhiet pls). How much waste to they produce? Thanks, your advice will be greatly appreciated!
Resolved Question: Is my tank water ok for a betta?
I'm starting a 2.65 gallon tank. I'm doing it completely from scratch (i.e. no bacteria from an established tank or adding pure ammonia) and am going to add the betta in during cycling. I've tested the water for only two days. I'm using the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Freshwater Master Test Kit and the only product I've added to the water was Aquarium Pharmaceuticals' Betta Water Conditioner. On day one (yesterday), my readings were as follows: pH = 7.4 - 7.6, ammonia = 0.25 ppm, nitrites = 0 ppm, nitrates = 0 ppm, temperature = 78 - 80*F. On day two (today), my readings had changed: pH = 7.2 - 7.4, ammonia = 0.50 ppm, nitrites = 0 ppm, nitrates = 5.0 ppm, temperature = 78 - 80*F. It is possible, though, that I misread what color the tubes actually were on the first day and that today has my actual results. Should I only be worried about the ammonia? Would it be ok to get the betta today and add him to the tank or should I wait?
Resolved Question: Freshwater - Any plants for a 10 gallon?
I have been keeping fish for many years but don't really know much about plants, I have always had chichlids, so the live plants have never standed a chance with them. I have recently started a 10 gallon aquarium and I am looking for some hardy plants that are also very pretty. (has been cycled). I am will to change the lighting to whatever is needed. The fish are: - 5 white skirt tetras - 1 dwarf guarami - 3 otos The aquarium is cleaned and maintained weekly. Ph is 7.3. Temperature is 78. So basically I am looking for some good beginner plants for a 10 gallon aqauium. And if possible do you have any plant sugestions for my 40 gallon threadfin chichlid tank? Thank you. :D
Voting Question: Why isn't my fish getting better?!?!?
Here are all the fun details. my red wag swordtail has ich. Today is day three of the treatment quick cure. According to all the info on quick cure i could find i only have one more treatment left, but my fish should of been cured in 2 days! Day 1-light sprinkling of white on top of fish and on gills. shimmying Day 2-heavy sprinkling of white spots, gills completely white. shimmying Day 3-even larger white patches, not as much shimmying. now hangs out on top of tank. So!my fish does not seem to be getting better. here is all that i have been doing. I change the water prior to treatment as instructed on package of quick cure. raised temperature to 81-82 degrees. use aquarium salt daily use water treatment with new water change. My Placo does not seem to have any signs of illness or ich, could my swordtail have something other then ich with very similar symptoms. also because of this treatment for my swordtail i had to remove my 2 African dwarf frogs from the aquarium. how long will they be ok in the smaller bowl? and now they are floating on the surface (a sign of illness too!) Please help me! all additional info you probably need to know: 10 gal tank freshwater no other fish other then mentioned above no living rock or coral 1 bamboo plant 4 general habitat plants 1 heater 1 bubbler 1 filter (with carbon removed for treatment) Nitrite levels are rising probably due to the fact that the filter is not actually filtering. same for my frog tank (have been treating water nightly with ammonia eater) Thank you!!
