Resolved Question: Freshwater Aquarium Needs Unique Animals?
I have kept fish all my life, and am very skilled in aquarium maintenence and upkeep. Ok, the reason I said that was not to boast at all, but to ask for what unique freshwater animals I can put in my new 10gallon tank. I have already set it up, and gotten the water treated and running for 5 days, and I am now ready to populate the tank. Again, I said what I said so that you would not hold back with your suggestions. I am not a soccer mom who got this for her kid and is going to kill all the fish because she doesnt know what she is doing. I know what I am doing and want to break of of the norm and not just do fish only. Right now the tank has water in it, two live plans, pepple rocks, and a filter - that's it. So what do you suggest...or should I go saltwater and get some REALLY cool stuff? (I have never had a saltware tank before though) The filter I have can cycle 50 gallons an hour. My tank has been cycled like over 100 times already. What do you mean it hasnt been cycled yet? Y both recommend frogs? I thought they were nasty - cloud up the water faster and all. Especially newts, arent newts dirtier than normal aquatic life? I am already using a 10gal tank - keeping the water clear will be hard enough. I already treated the water for a 10gallon amount with the all in one slime coat/chlorine remover. How much longer do I need to leave it filtering if 5 days isnt enough yet? Is there anything else I need to do/add to it? 5 days is always what I have done in the past, and I rarely had fish die.
Resolved Question: HELP!!! What can i put in a 1and a Half gallon aquarium. I Have a snail in it already.
HELP ME!!! What can i put in a 1 and a half gallon aquarium? I don't want any fish in it though. Please tell me what animals i could put in it, and what they need like types of food, special care, water temp., heater, etc. will these animals go good with my snail? my tank is filtered and is freshwater.
Resolved Question: Should I start a saltwater aquarium in my 30 gallon?
I have a 30 gallon freshwater right now. One of my favourite fish died and now I am thinking of starting a saltwater tank. I have always loved and wanted a saltwater tank. I have just heard that they are very time-consuming and expensive. From the people who have them, is this completely true? If so, how much time and money? I love SW fish. Freshwater fish just aren't as exotic as I like. Tetras and goldfish are boring to me. I know that I can get anything from shrimp and snails to lionfish in a SW tank (not in my 30, of course). I hate to be cliché and it has nothing to do with Finding Nemo, but I love clownfish, both the orange and the black ones. I also love anemoenes [sic]. my ideal tank would be a live rock with anemoenes [sic] and clownfish. I can also put other things in there, maybe, but I will have to learn what is compatable. I can't think of anything more rewarding than a beautiful SW tank that I can watch and show others. I don't wanna have to spend $50 a month on one but I can maintain it. Only from people who have or had a SW tank, what all do I need to set up and maintain a tank of that size? Could I get a rough estimate on how much each item I would need is. I have tried looking it up but there are so many different sites saying different things. There is only 1 pet shop that carries SW fish and I just went the other day. I haven't heard too much info from others, other than "its expensive and its really hard and takes a lot of time." On a side note, I am a full-time student and I do not work. I am usually home most of the week since class is only Monday and Wednesday morning and Tuesday nights. I do live close to Panama City Beach. I like snorkeling. I usually go around the jetties at St. Andrew's and see some beautiful fish. Has anyone ever caught something and put it in their SW tank? Does it work? I wouldn't mind grabbing an urchin (carefully) or a small tropical fish. On the same note, I LOVE jellyfish! One of GOD's coolest animals, to me. Small jellies are common near PCB. Has anyone ever had jellies in their tank? Would that even work? I would love to have a few very small jellyfish inside of a tank with some other creatures that can live with them. Any advice would be perfect. Just do me a favour and stick to the questions. I hate it when people critique my choice of fish. If it can't work, it can't. Thank you, in advance. *best answer gets 10 points, if you care about that stuff*
Resolved Question: Is Jungle Aquarium Parasite Clear safe to be applied in a stingray tank?
I have a community tank of some polypterus endlicheri bichirs and freshwater rays. Recently the bichirs started scratching and a friend of mine recommended me the Jungle Aquarium Parasite Clear. However the packaging didnt state if the medication is safe for rays and other scaleless aquatic animals. Anyone has tried applying it with rays before?
Resolved Question: handling aquarium water, filter, fish ok while pregnant?
I am moving apartments and I'm the only one who takes care of my 20 gal aquarium. I had to add water to the tank and reinstall the filter and handle everything inside the tank. I'm six weeks pregnant and didn't realize what I was doing until just now. I read about certain illnesses handling other animals, though it was cats, not fish. Is handling freshwater aquarium fish ok? i guess its stupid to ask now, i've already set up their tank and washed my hands a few times. Also, I had a scrape and a cut on my hand. I washed that too and used peroxide. Does anyone know if what I did was super bad or not? Thanks in advance.
Resolved Question: What fish sholud I put in my aquarium?
I have a ten gallon aquarium. It is freshwater, and currently has some ghost shrimp in it. I was thinking about getting a few Neon Tetras for it, but I would like to know two other fish species, I am wanting to keep four different animal species in the aquarium, I can put in it. Also how many of the fish species are needed at a mimiuim to keep each individual species happy.
Resolved Question: First fresh water aquarium with sucker fish, HELP!?
My friends mother wants to get rid of her Plecostomus... Large sucker fish. As they have gotten older and larger they have become violent, killing any small fish she adds to the tank. So she offered to give them to me. and while I only will agree to take one... I Dont want to take on too much by taking both when they are each roughly a foot long (and have grown to two feet) and I ONLY HAVE a 30 gallon tank. which was also provided by his mother. Now between all of the equipment i understand that im going to be spending about a 100$ to get started with the pump, filter, bubble thingy, food gravel and such.... But my main concern is .....CAN I KEEP JUST THE ONE FISH? Some animals are verrryyyy attached to another pet they have spent all their time with. I dont have enough tank space for both! and should I get another fish to keep in there (not small but certainly not as big) to keep up the algea growth? ANY advice from an expierenced sucker fish or freshwater aquarium owner would be GREAT!!! thank you soooo much!
