Resolved Question: how to move large amounts of saltwater...?
I was wondering if anyone knows how marine exhibits such as sea world and the newport aquarium and a hundred others are able to get enough saltwater to manage their tanks that hold sharks killer whales and a bunch of other animals that take millions of gallons to fill, i think its unlikely that any of them make their own saltwater from freshwater when it costs around around 35.00 for a 5 gallon bucket of salt mixture, and alot of the parks are too far to pump it from a direct saltwater source. i'm trying to find out if it would be possible to maintain a small maybe 1 acre saltwater lake with fish on my property without living very close to water.. i've looked for a while and can't find anything on the web so any info, or any suggestions where i could look would help.. thanks..
Resolved Question: First fresh water aquarium with sucker fish, HELP!?
My friends mother wants to get rid of her Plecostomus... Large sucker fish. As they have gotten older and larger they have become violent, killing any small fish she adds to the tank. So she offered to give them to me. and while I only will agree to take one... I Dont want to take on too much by taking both when they are each roughly a foot long (and have grown to two feet) and I ONLY HAVE a 30 gallon tank. which was also provided by his mother.
Now between all of the equipment i understand that im going to be spending about a 100$ to get started with the pump, filter, bubble thingy, food gravel and such....
But my main concern is .....CAN I KEEP JUST THE ONE FISH? Some animals are verrryyyy attached to another pet they have spent all their time with. I dont have enough tank space for both!
and should I get another fish to keep in there (not small but certainly not as big) to keep up the algea growth?
ANY advice from an expierenced sucker fish or freshwater aquarium owner would be GREAT!!!
thank you soooo much!
Resolved Question: Can I keep an octopus in a 55 gallon aquarium?

Voting Question: D you find this story hilarious even though it's mean?
A US man who attacked his ex-girlfriend and impaled her pet fish has been sentenced to two years probation, a psychological evaluation and community service.
Donald Earl Fite III, 27, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to animal abuse and domestic violence assault.
According to court records, Sarah Harris had broken up with Fite but returned to her Portland apartment July 25 to find him lying on her bed, saying he wanted to get back together.
When Harris tried to leave, Fite shoved her against a wall, grabbed her hair and tossed her against a bathtub.
Harris fled but returned with an officer to find her fish - a bright purple betta named "DeLorean" - on the wood floor with a knife through it.
According to court records, Fite quickly admitted killing the fish, telling police: "If she can't have me, then she can't have the fish."
Fite's attorney, Tom Macnair, said Tuesday that killing the fish was a "very low point" in his client's life.
"He is absolutely mortified and ashamed about what he did to the fish," MacNair said in Multnomah County Circuit Court. Fite, who had no previous criminal history, declined to make a statement.
Harris did not attend the hearing. In a phone interview with The Oregonian newspaper, she recalled crying hysterically when she saw the fish with a knife sticking through it.
"Donald bought the fish for me, and I'm sure he knew how much I cared for it," she said.
Betta fish, also known as Siamese fighting fish, are colourful freshwater aquarium fish that usually are between 5 to 7 centimetres long.
Prosecutor Eric Zimmerman told Judge Eric Bergstrom that Harris plans to get a memorial tattoo of the fish and wanted Fite to pay for it.
Bergstrom, however, declined to make Fite pay for the tattoo.

Resolved Question: What fish sholud I put in my aquarium?
I have a ten gallon aquarium. It is freshwater, and currently has some ghost shrimp in it. I was thinking about getting a few Neon Tetras for it, but I would like to know two other fish species, I am wanting to keep four different animal species in the aquarium, I can put in it. Also how many of the fish species are needed at a mimiuim to keep each individual species happy.
Resolved Question: Should I start a saltwater aquarium in my 30 gallon?
I have a 30 gallon freshwater right now. One of my favourite fish died and now I am thinking of starting a saltwater tank. I have always loved and wanted a saltwater tank. I have just heard that they are very time-consuming and expensive. From the people who have them, is this completely true? If so, how much time and money?
I love SW fish. Freshwater fish just aren't as exotic as I like. Tetras and goldfish are boring to me. I know that I can get anything from shrimp and snails to lionfish in a SW tank (not in my 30, of course).
I hate to be cliché and it has nothing to do with Finding Nemo, but I love clownfish, both the orange and the black ones. I also love anemoenes [sic]. my ideal tank would be a live rock with anemoenes [sic] and clownfish. I can also put other things in there, maybe, but I will have to learn what is compatable.
I can't think of anything more rewarding than a beautiful SW tank that I can watch and show others.
I don't wanna have to spend $50 a month on one but I can maintain it.
Only from people who have or had a SW tank, what all do I need to set up and maintain a tank of that size? Could I get a rough estimate on how much each item I would need is. I have tried looking it up but there are so many different sites saying different things. There is only 1 pet shop that carries SW fish and I just went the other day. I haven't heard too much info from others, other than "its expensive and its really hard and takes a lot of time."
On a side note, I am a full-time student and I do not work. I am usually home most of the week since class is only Monday and Wednesday morning and Tuesday nights.
I do live close to Panama City Beach. I like snorkeling. I usually go around the jetties at St. Andrew's and see some beautiful fish. Has anyone ever caught something and put it in their SW tank? Does it work? I wouldn't mind grabbing an urchin (carefully) or a small tropical fish.
On the same note, I LOVE jellyfish! One of GOD's coolest animals, to me. Small jellies are common near PCB. Has anyone ever had jellies in their tank? Would that even work? I would love to have a few very small jellyfish inside of a tank with some other creatures that can live with them.
Any advice would be perfect.
Just do me a favour and stick to the questions. I hate it when people critique my choice of fish. If it can't work, it can't.
Thank you, in advance.
*best answer gets 10 points, if you care about that stuff*
Resolved Question: looking foor good freshwater inverts?
One thing I've always wanted to do is to have a marine reef tank with a bunch of cool invertebrates. Marine tanks are too expensive for me though; materials, everything about them!
I want to try to make a freshwater tank with the same general kinds of fish. Are there any cool shrimp, lobsters, crabs, eels, snails, etc. that are freshwater, get along well with others, and don't cost and arm and two legs.
Ghost shrimp and the blue crayfish are some examples of what I am looking for.
Also, can African Dwarf frogs live in a tank with semi-aggressive fish?
What can eels live with, without eating them?
Are there any of these that can breed pretty good in an aquarium?
I have a 20 gallon aquarium, is that too small to get most of these that I've listed?
Any list of animals for me to research further, or good fish sites appreciated.
Thanks!
