Resolved Question: Orange Algae Eater keep dying. help.?
I have a 55 gallon aquarium with mollies and platies, and ive been trying to keep an orange algae eater in there but they keep dying a few days after i put them in there. i use a moderate amount of freshwater aquarium salt and water conditioner for my tap water. I haven't done a water change in awhile and i do keep my filters clean. i keep the water around 85 degrees which i was told is a good temperature for all tropical fish. any suggestions?
Resolved Question: Which fish and how many can I get?
I have a 65L (approx 17 gallon) tank that currently has 1 male dalmatian molly, 1 male platy and 1 male swordfish. It's a fairly new aquarium (3 weeks) but I did all the research and added live bacteria, changed the water, regularly cleaned the tank and all that and the fish seem to be doing fine. They seem really healthy and are getting along well. Firstly, how many more fish can I keep in the tank? It has a decent filter and good aeration system if that helps... Secondly, I would really love to keep guppies in the tank but I heard the other fish may nip their tails. Is this true? If I got them in a group of like 4 or 5 would the other fish leave them alone? What would be your suggestions for what I should keep in the tank? More swordtails, mollies and platys? Can I keep some guppies? It's a freshwater, un-heated tank (I live in a fairly warm climate). Thanks for all your help.

Resolved Question: Why do my fish have swollen bellies?
I have a 20 gallon freshwater aquarium with a heater set at 78, a filter and a medium sized air stone. These are the fish that are in there: 2 comet goldfish 2 female guppies 3 platies 2 female swordfish 2 mollies I noticed that the two guppies, and one of the platies have very swollen bellies. There eyes are clear and normal, and their scales are shiny and intact. They are swimming just fine and have healthy appetites. I did a water test and here are the results Nitrate ...5 Nitrite....0 Hardness...75 Alkalinity...80 pH....7.5 I feed the fish 2-3 times a day, a small amount of mixed goldfish flakes and tropical fish flakes. Every few days I will give them a small piece of frozen bloodworms
Resolved Question: Can I put seashells I found at the beach in my freshwater aquarium?
I have several fish, including Sunburst wags, Dalmation Mollies, and Skirted Tetras. I would love to put them in, but I'm afraid it might change the salinity of the tank.
Resolved Question: Using salt in freshwater tank without a hydrometer?
A few of my freshwater fish are showing modest signs of ick/illness (I think from a new fish I added), and I want to add aquarium salt to help them before it gets worse. Will I be safe measuring the salt myself or should I wait until I can get a hydrometer. My tank - 25 gallon 1 yellow gourami 1 pearl gourami 6 molly 6 small golden barbs 2 guppy 1 2.5 inch goldfish (will be moved to a different tank soon) 1 apple snail 7 molly fry I think people misunderstand What I am mainly worried about is ACCIDENTALLY adding too little or too much salt without having any way to tell. The question is that if I measure it carefully will I be ok without a tool to measure how much salt exactly is in the tank. Do you guys add the salt yourself without using a hydrometer to measure exactly how much salt is in the tank and to tweak it. Thanks for telling me what measurements you guys use though, that is also helpful.
Resolved Question: What fish to put in freshwater 40 gallon hexagon tank (aquarium)?
I am fairly new to the aquarium thing but I have really enjoyed the small 10 gallon tank I had set up in my classroom. I took a gamble and found a great deal on a 40 gallon hexagon tank. It's all set up and the water is stable and testing normal for everything. I'm ready for fish but I want to make sure i do it right. In my classroom I had a Dalmatian Molly that had about 25 babies, I didn't do my research. I'd like to have a variety of bottom, middle and top swimmers since it's a taller tank and I'd like a variety of color, size and interesting fish that will live peacefully. I'd like to stay away from live bearers since I don't have the capacity to breed nor do i want a full tank of the same fish. Any suggestions or "fish lists" would be greatly appreciated! I've been researching and can find info on specific fish but I really want a list of fish that fit my needs and will live well together. Thanks!! This hexagon is not very narrow, it's actually quite stocky, 24" wide and 26" tall.
