Resolved Question: ***16 gallon aquarium stocking?
I have a aqueon 16 gallon bow front freshwater fish tank with a hang over the back style filter and a heater. I am cycling it right now with 2 zebra danios (If I need to I can get rid of those). I can't decide what to put in it. I love chichilds but a 16 gallon is small so I can't get discus or angels. I like tiger barbs but they will not get along with anything else. help thanks I forgot, I also have a light hood 2 fake plants and a rock thing with fake plants in it
Resolved Question: Stocking my 16g fish tank :)?
Just bought the tank, it is doing a fishless cycle. What do you recommend for my new aquarium. Im interested in all answers for freshwater; tropical or cold water. Let me know.
Resolved Question: Stocking a 10 gallon freshwater fish tank, what fish are suitable for my tank?
I purchased a 10 gallon fish tank several weeks ago. It's been set up and has 1 guppy so far and I am in the process of slowly adding compatible fish. I am testing all my levels and waiting out the cycle. Anyway, I've been researching compatible combinations to stock my tank and coming up with conflicting information from all sources. For instance I just read this on The aquarium Wiki: "Fish NOT suitable for a 10 Gallon tank Many common popular fish are in fact NOT suitable for this size tank. Either they are too active such as the Neon Tetra, Zebra Danio or Platy, or grow too large such as the Goldfish, Mollies, all Plecos and many of the larger Corydoras catfish. The Dwarf Gourami, despite it's common name, should really be kept in a larger tank of 15 US Gallons (56.8L), and also current fish available have been sickly and it's not recommended to add these to established tanks." However in manual that came with my tank and in the fish store they both suggested several zebra danios. PLEASE tell me your opinions or suggestions to stocking this 10 gallon tank: http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8cf34b3127ccec5cbdfa3568600000040O08QYsmrJq5ag9vPgg/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ and light is on for picture but most often the light will not be on and tank will just have indirect light 74 degrees in tank http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8cf34b3127ccec5ca0a03369800000040O08QYsmrJq5ag9vPgg/cC/f What items should I remove if too crowded~ TIA for all of your suggestions:) http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8cf34b3127ccec5ca0a03369800000040O08QYsmrJq5ag9vPgg/cC/f
Resolved Question: I need to move a Freshwater and saltwater tank to put flooring in.?
I need to move a 72 gallon bow front aquarium stocked with live rock, sand, and fish (no corals) and a 40 gallon freshwater aquarium downstairs to put in new flooring on this floor. I have no idea how i could move these aquariums and yet keep everything safe enough for the day as we put the flooring in. I intend to make the swap of flooring in one days span to reduce as much stress as possible. I was thinking of draining the aquariums, putting the freshwater fish in a spare tank downstairs, but i have no idea what to do with the saltwater fish. If i take the live rock out of the water will it cause the live rock to expel ammonia and nitrites?would i have to re-cure it? Any answers/ideas would help
Resolved Question: What kind of snail is this?
So I was looking to add a couple nerite snails to my freshwater tank to help cure an algae problem, since I've read lots about how they're great cleaners and can survive in freshwater despite being brackish snails. I called up a local aquarium store, and the guy said he'd order some for me if his suppliers had some. I called again today and a new guy confirmed that they had gotten them in stock, so I picked a couple up. Except these guys look nothing like any of the nerites that I have seen online! I've never seen one in real life and am far from being familiar with the different types... but these snails are way different than I expected. I trusted the guy in the store, and he seemed to know what kind of snails I was talking about on the phone, but now that I look more closely at these snails, I doubt that they're actual nerites. Here's some pictures of the snails that I just picked up: http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd12/hashki1234/IMG_0743.jpg http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd12/hashki1234/IMG_0744.jpg And here's a picture of nerites the way I expected them to look: http://www.mariculturetechnology.com/images/Nerite.jpg Are these nerites? If not, what kind? I'm not set up for saltwater, so I'm not sure what to do with these guys if it turns out that they're something completely different... Not looking forward to having to return them and explain that, although I've never *actually* seen one, I don't think these are nerite snails... Help! I just called the guy and asked if he were sure if they were nerites... he said "Well, it says they were on the invoice." He says that the ones he gave me are brackish, so if I slowly acclimate them to freshwater (they're in saltwater now) they should survive. Think he's right? Here goes nothing...
