Resolved Question: Electric Blue Crayfish?
I have an Electric Blue Crayfish that is about a 1.25 inches. He has been stationary in a shipwreck (Aquarium ornament) opening and is upside down/sideways (75 degree angle). I don't know if he is dead or molting?
I can't reach him unless I mess up the whole tank set up including live plants and filtration system. Plus, I don't want to grab him & damage his soft~shell if he is molting. Also, I can barely see him with a flash-light so it is hard for me to tell.
He is in a 55 Gallon Freshwater tank with 1 Red-Tail Shark, 2 Bala Sharks, 1 Chinese Golden Algae Eater, & a 1 Pictus Catfish that are all under 3 inches so they are not huge yet. Don't worry, I will get a huge tank, once the sharks grow 6+ inches.
Please provide any input as I hope to have healthy, happy aquatic creatures.
Regards,
Darrick
I would also assume, that the Sharks would "consume" the Electric Crayfish, if he was dead but the they have left him alone. They even swim past him like it is not there.
The Crayfish still seems intact with the shell too, but it is hard for me to tell as I mentioned the conditions above.
Resolved Question: What filter should I get for my aquarium?
It's a 50 gallon with freshwater tropical and live plants. I was thinking the Aqua Clear 200/50.
Any other suggestions?
Below $60 is preferable.
Resolved Question: If i put these fish in my tank, will it be too crowded (more detailed)?
Okay, I'm starting an aquarium and need some advice on how many fish to put in.
I currently have a 30L (8 gallon) tank, freshwater, will include live plants.
I'm considering putting in 1 betta (fighting fish), 1 bristlenose catfish (or something similar) and 4 neon tetras. I understand that the bristlenose can grow huge, but am hoping to obtain a larger tank. If that fails, there is another tank (120L) I can add him to.
Is that too crowded? I'm also considering swapping the neons for guppies - would that work?
Any info would be great, thanks!!
Resolved Question: Advice for live plants in a new tank?
Hey everyone, I've successfully kept a couple bigger tanks (a 29 gal freshwater an a 20 gal brackish), but recently moved to San Francisco and had to give them to friends. Now that I'm here, I want to start anoter tank, and this time I want to use live plants instead of plastic.
I got a 6 gal set from petco, like this one http://reviews.petco.com/3554/14978/reviews.htm and don't want to put fish in it until I am sure I can keep the plants going healthy - just a simple little setup for the upper shelf of my desk with a flourescent hood and hang-on filter. I haven't set it up yet because I want it to turn out right and wanted to ask first, and money isn't much of an issue.
So, what sort of substrate and nutrients should I use to get a sort of half-mossy/half-sandy floor like this? http://www.adana-usa.com/images/gallery0/8.jpg I also want to get a few plants to root and get some other plants that will root on porous rock.
Aquarium experts, please advise!
Thanks, John! - what sort of substrate should I use?
FFAFish - like I said, I'm more focusing on plants with this one. If I do get any complex organisms for it, it'll probably be a couple shrimp.
Resolved Question: Is it safe for my bird to drink aquarium water?
On top of my fish tank there is a small opening and i noticed that my cockatiel has been drinking from my fish tank water. I don't know why, his water bowl has much fresher, colder water in it, but he likes to drink from there. But i figure if the fish can drink it, why can't he? It's safe right? It's clean, i clean it good every 1.5 weeks. It's freshwater not saltwater. I have 3 live plants in there, and 8 little fish. Will it still make him sick, should i find some way to cover up that small opening?
It has a filter, which gets the poop!
And i don't put chemicals in it other then dechlorinator, which actually gets rid of chlorine. So less chemicals....
Resolved Question: Can these fish coexist under the conditions I am providing in an aquarium?
I have 2 telescope goldfish (about 2-3 inches without tails each), 1 fancy (about 2 inches w/o tail), 1 silver tipped shark (baby), and 3 tiger barbs (also babies).
The goldfish are massive when compared to the other fish. I have read that the tigers love to nip fins (the goldfish have very big ones), but not if in a sufficient sized school... I was thinking about getting 2 or 3 more barbs to make it more 'school-like'. ALSO, with the silver tipped shark, I have read that they prefer to live in brackish water -- can I get some freshwater aquarium salt and add it without affecting the other fish?
Please don't respond that I need to get a larger tank, I change the water frequently as it is, have a great filter, and gravel/rocky substrate, an 100W water heater (heated between 78-80 degrees), plastic plants and one live plant.
Thanks.
the goldfish are a year and a half old, they've spent most of their life in a 10 gallon tank... all 3 of them...
I am now contemplating returning the shark due to 'Jaws' needing brackish conditions when he/she gets older. Returning the goldfish is not an option, they're my original fish....
Please give me opinions on TIGER BARBS and FANCY/TELESCOPE GOLDFISH living together... not my tank size PLEASE.....
none of these answers were helpful.. I returned the shark and got a pleco... thanks.
Resolved Question: Aquarium algae problem?
Okay so I've had my aquarium and it's pretty new, about 3-4 months. The first month or two my tank was clean with no algae. Now the entire tank is getting covered in green, brown, very very little red [almost invisible] algae. My tank is a tropical freshwater aquarium and is planted with live plants. I'm pretty sure its cycled since i red that algae comes from nitrates. However i am sort of understocked and i do about 35% water changes every week or two. I'm moving and im starting my tank over again... how can i prevent algae problems?
