Resolved Question: Got a 40-55Gal Aquarium with Freshwater Angel Fish..?
Well I am buying some freshwater angel fish, I am going to get a few Black Veil Angels and probably some other colored kind of angels to bring some life to the Aquarium. the only fish I have had in my life was gold fish when I was younger.. and I am looking to buy some fish again now. so how long should I cycle the tank for? also what are some tips you have? and another question what other kinds of fish are compatible with angel fish? Because I was looking to get an algae eater also. and probably a few other kinds but im not sure whats compatible. Fish I am going to get: Black Veil Angel Marble Veil Angel you can see them here: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=830+879 but I am not sure what else to get, I need to fill it with some other fish's to, but one main thing I was is an algae eater. anyways let me know some tips or what not. Thanks.
Resolved Question: Freshwater fish and ammonia levels high?
I just got a biube aquarium, it is supposed to have a 5 stage filtration system so it is supposed to be very good. I set up the aquarium and added 2 goldfish, few guppies and an algae eater. I should mention it is a 10 gallon aquarium. All my guppies died. I checked ammonia levels and they were off the chart high. I did 50% water change and still high ammonia, so the next day I did a whole water change. Ammonia is very very low now but i am afraid it will start growing again because I have one goldfish in there. I would like to keep this goldfish but I would also like to have guppies and other fish in there. Does anyone know if keeping this goldfish will create problems with ammonia continuously ? I know goldfish are supposed to create high levels of ammonia, but i am not sure whether my ammonia was created by this single goldfish or was the ammonia created because I first set up. Again i have a 10 Gallon tank and only one medium sized goldfish, is all the ammonia created by him only?
Resolved Question: I want fresh water fish maybe one or two, easy to care for NO GOLDFISH.Any suggestions?
We already have a 265 gallon tank in our basement that covers the entire wall with about 21 cichlids, a turtle,a few algae eaters and other bullcrap. Its my boyfriends and he cares for it, its a hassle, changing the water and so on, then when they get sick you have to seperate them..I can't stand it. I want a small aquarium to put upstairs in my house when I say small I mean small...Just big enough for about 2 fish and I want both to be the same gender cus I dont want babies.Any suggestions? I don't want to do ALOT of water changing and I want fish that will live longer than a week and that get along with other fish.I want a pretty fish, I find that saltwater fish tend to be prettier then freshwater but I cant deal with all the hassle. I wouldn't mind a fish that was in the "goldfish family" but I dont want a regular ol ugly goldfish Thanks :) Goldfish ARE UGLY, (to me) thats my opinion.
Resolved Question: How do I get green algae out of a freshwater aquarium?
The back of my aquarium has green algae. I clean (25% partial water change and scrape the inside walls) the aquarium every week. I have had the aquarium setup for 2 months. I just recently started seeing algae over the past 2 weeks. Last week and the week before the algae was just in small areas, so I just wiped it off with a aquarium sponge. This week it is not thick, but it takes up a good size area on the back wall. How should I best get rid of the algae? Should I get an algae eater, snail, a special type of chemical to put in the water, etc? I am reluctant to getting an algae eater because I don't know if it would eat my fish. I have 7 baby platies in a 10 gallon tank. The platies were all born in March and April. They are about half an inch in size. The aquarium is near a window (where the blinds usually stay closed). The water is clear. The fish get fed every other day and I put new filters in the power filter 2 weeks ago. The hood light is usually on about 12 hours a day.
Resolved Question: What's the easiest fish for my aquarium (low maintenance)?
I just sadly lost our goldfish (koi?) and soon thereafter our algae eater was also lost. we had these for several years. like at least 5 maybe more. it's a freshwater tank and i don't have alot of time for maintenance. I'm not sure why these last fish died after so many years, should I replace them with the same (goldfish & algae eater) or could you recommend something else. Our climate is warm, so the tank temperature is not a major issue. It's a 30 gallon tank.
Resolved Question: aquarium snails dying?
I have a freshwater aquarium with guppies, molly, pleco, algae eater, otto cat, figure 8 puffer, angel fish, shrimp and neon tetras. My two snails died, but all of the fish are doing great and the tank is cycled. I do keep a small amount (smaller than 1 tbsp/5 gallons) of pure salt in the tank. I had a small brown algae diatoms outbreak at the end of the cycling of the tank. What killed these so called "hardy" snails? What are the requirements for snails to thrive in an aquarium?
Resolved Question: Is there an easy way of maintaining a saltwater fishtank? just how hard is it? expenses per month?
I have a 55 gallon freshwater tank right now with several convict cichlids, an eel, and an algae eater. I have a good filter (dual filtration system), one power head (have 1 or 2 more laying around), an external thermometer, air pump, vacuum, buckets, scrubber, basically everything for freshwater. what else would I need for a basic saltwater aquarium? are there any shortcuts i can take to make the existing freshwater into saltwater or do i have to start from scratch? also what kind of saltwater fish is "hardy" and good to start with for a beginner in saltwater?
